Chiropractic Massage

Chiropractic massage is used for improving overall health and increasing musculoskeletal efficiency. It has many beneficial effects on the body, including the removal of toxins and increased flexibility in the muscles and connective tissues. In addition, massage therapy is helpful with dealing with muscle spasms, soft tissue injuries and even eating and sleep disorders, which is why Dr. Richard Robinson offers it to our patients here at Robinson Family Chiropractic.

Chiropractic is known to help with a variety of issues, and massage therapy is an effective part of chiropractic treatments. It helps increase circulation, movement and balance and helps with a variety of conditions, including back pain, diabetes, high blood pressure, TMJ, arthritis, immune system issues, fibromyalgia and more. Massage therapy can help detoxify your body and improve your overall wellness, and when it is combined with regular chiropractic treatment, it is an effective form of preventative health maintenance.

If you are suffering from back pain, surgery recovery, eating and sleep disorders, high blood pressure or diabetes, massage therapy can help you. To receive the beneficial effects that massage therapy can have for you, schedule an appointment with our office by calling (847) 963-4894. Deep Tissue Massage

The goal of a deep tissue massage is to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep pressure on the painful areas. Deep tissue massages are therapeutic as well as corrective so the benefits are twofold. Dr. Richard Robinson offers this treatment option at Robinson Family Chiropractic for patients who suffer from consistent muscle pain.

When our patients receive a deep tissue massage, the massage therapist will be focusing on aligning deep muscles and connective tissues in the back. Chronic tense areas like your neck, lower back and shoulders especially benefit from this type of massage.  In deep tissue massage, many of the same strokes are used as classic massage therapy, but with slower movement and deeper pressure, concentrated on tense painful areas.

While there are many similarities between a deep tissue massage and a traditional massage, a deep tissue massage is used to target specific areas rather than the whole body. Massage techniques for a deep tissue massage include the use of knuckles, fists, elbows, and forearms. The pace of a deep tissue massage session is usually slower than that of other massage work as well.

There is a common misconception about deep tissue massages as many people believe that they are painful and actually do more damage to your back. This is just not true! The reason one might feel pain during their procedure is because your body is beginning to heal. Some patients may experience tenderness or stiffness the day after a deep tissue massage. Dr. Robinson recommends that patients feeling this way apply ice to painful areas, but know that the discomfort is temporary as your body is releasing toxins and healing itself.

How Can Chiropractic Adjustments Help You?

The human body is a complex network of interacting systems that work together to accomplish many tasks and the central nervous system is the master of them all. Because the nervous system facilitates communication between the brain and the rest of the body through passages in the spine, if vertebrae become misaligned, it can have a systemic effect on the entire body. Spinal misalignment, subluxations and other issues can interfere with the nervous system’s ability to properly relay information and inhibits your body’s ability to function at optimum levels.

The vertebrae in your spine can move out of alignment for a number of reasons, from daily activities and traumatic accidents. Using his hands to adjust your spine, Dr. Richard Robinson and Dr. Nicholas Cone can move your vertebrae back into place and remove interference to your nervous system. Whether used to combat existing pains and illnesses or as preventative treatment, adjustments improve the overall health of your body and keep it functioning at its highest levels, from your muscles to your immune system. Chiropractic is known to help a variety of illnesses and pain, including allergies, insomnia, headaches and more.

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that manifests itself as pain, tingling, burning and numbness in your feet, legs and hands. While most common in diabetics there are multiple causes of the condition including: thyroid disease, vitamin B issues, Lyme disease, kidney disease, anemia, alcoholism and some statin drugs. If you are suffering from this condition, the team at Robinson Family Chiropractic can help. Providing peripheral neuropathy diagnosis and treatment, our chiropractors Dr. Richard Robinson and Dr. Nicholas Cone can prevent nerve damage before it progresses too far.

Through our neuropathy program, patients who are suspected to have peripheral neuropathy can receive a skin biopsy, which is important for diagnosing neuropathy in small nerve fibers and also for following the progression of the patient’s condition during treatment. Once peripheral neuropathy has been diagnosed, Dr. Robinson can continue with treatment, which often includes cold laser therapy and vibration therapy.  In addition to alleviating the symptoms of the condition, chiropractic treatments for peripheral neuropathy can also prevent further nerve damage. If it is left untreated, neuropathy can lead to more serious complications that can require amputation.

Personal Injury

Here at Robinson Family Chiropractic, we provide chiropractic care for many situations, including personal injury. A personal injury can occur from a variety of circumstances, ranging from a fall from a ladder or roof to chronic back or shoulder pain and moving “wrong” during sleep. These particular injuries occur outside of the workplace.

With chiropractic care, we not only address the problem at hand, but work to improve the entire body. Our care focuses on the fact that all of the body’s systems are connected, so when one area is healed, the rest of the body soon follows suit. This is also why we like to perform adjustments for many of our patients, regardless of the injury. With an adjustment, we put the spine back into alignment, helping the entire body to improve itself ability to heal itself.

We encourage patients to visit our practice not just to find relief for their injury, but to prevent more complications. Many times, ignoring a type of pain or trauma can worsen the condition, and cause more of the body to go into physical distress. We look forward to your visit! Stress and Chiropractic Care

Here at Robinson Family Chiropractic we provide chiropractic treatment for many types of injuries, trauma, and health conditions. One of these conditions includes an everyday occurrence that can silently wreak chaos on your body: STRESS! There are two main types of stress: acute and chronic.
Acute stress is the most common and typically a "fight or flight" response to a situtation. In the best sense it can be a thrilling ride on a roller coaster or down a ski hill. Most often, however, it is associated with everyday situations such as stress over a job deadline or test, or forgetting to lock the back door or do the laundry. When acute stress becomes consistent, perhaps on a daily basis, it is known as episodic acute stress.

Chronic stress results from more severe situations: loss of a job, unhappy family life, financial worries. Chronis stress may also be a result of lingering post traumatic stress, constant anxiety or being  "a worrier".

Regardless of stress levels, there are many negative effects on the body, which Dr. Richard Robinson and Dr. Nicholas Cone focus on correcting. These include:
  • Depression
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Hair loss
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Insomnia
We offer various types of chiropractic treatments to help treat stress. A common treatment offered for stress is with adjustments, which includes proper alignment of the spine for better overall health. Chiropractic massage and therapeutic exercise are also offered here at Robinson Family Chiropractic, and can do wonders to relieve stress. Patients benefit by getting chiropractic care for stress as it provides overall health to help with other issues, not just the stress they are dealing with.

Auto Accident & Whiplash

Auto accidents have a tendency to not only cause trauma from the incident, but also chronic pain. Many of our patients come to us after the accident because, regardless of painkillers they are taking, the pain just won’t subside. The patients that visit us at Robinson Family Chiropractic after an accident most often describe the following injuries: whiplash, neck pain, back pain, and occasionally pain or discomfort in other areas of the body due to the impact. Sometimes however, the effects of an impact can hide for days, weeks, even years. Therefore even if our patients don’t feel pain after the accident, we still ask them to see us for a check up to mitigate the pain and any long term residual effects from the impact.

Whiplash is one of the most common injuries patients experience after an automobile accident. It is also one of the more common injuries that can hide and wreak havoc on your body long term. Whiplash occurs when the head is whipped forward, then backward in a rapid motion. It can cause severe headaches, neck, shoulder, and back pain. Along with other chiropractic techniques and diagnostic tools, we use massage and spinal adjustments to realign the spine and help massage connective tissues in the upper back and neck.

If you've been involved in an auto accident, be sure to schedule an appointment with Dr. Richard Robinson and Dr. Nicolas Cone at our Rolling Meadows or Algonquin offices to discuss possible auto accident treatments.

Subluxation

The spine consists of 33 vertebrae—seven cervical, 12 thoracic and five lumbar—and if any one of these become misaligned or moves out of its normal position, it is called a subluxation. These subluxations can be caused by a wide variety of factors, including minor slips or bumps, car accidents or sudden trauma. Once a subluxation forms, it can put pressure on nerves, blood vessels and everything around it, which interrupts the natural pathways the nervous system uses to send messages between the brain and the rest of the body.

If a subluxation goes untreated, the spine and surrounding features, such as discs, can actually begin to degenerate, which becomes more difficult to reverse as surrounding muscles, nerves and bones adjust to the new shape. As this happens, the body will accommodate these structural changes by compensating in other areas. Compensation can lead to more injuries and ailments throughout your body.

Regular chiropractic treatment at our office with Dr. Richard Robinson is an effective treatment for subluxation. By utilizing his hands, he can adjust your spine with quick movements to move the vertebrae back into place and remove the interference from you body’s natural healing ability. The process is without discomfort.

Neck Pain and Chiropractic Care

Neck pain is something that millions of Americans live with. In most cases, neck pain is caused by whiplash but there are many other causes of this pain. Your neck, also called the cervical spine, begins at the base of your skull and contains seven small vertebrae. While your neck can move in nearly every direction, this flexibility makes your neck very susceptible to pain and injury.

Whiplash is an injury that occurs in a person's neck following a sudden acceleration-deceleration force that causes unrestrained, rapid forward and backward movement of the head and neck. This injury is commonly ignored or mistreated because patients do not always seek treatment following the event.  This condition can be very painful if left untreated. While most people involved in a car accident recover quickly without and chronic pain, some will experience symptoms for years after the injury.

While whiplash is one of the most common causes of neck pain, there are also other factors that can play into your pain:
  • Old age – degenerative disorders like osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease affect the spine as your grow older
  • Daily life – having poor posture, being obese or having weak abdominal muscles can disrupt spinal balance causing neck pain
  • Injury – when you make a sudden move involving your neck , your muscles react by tightening and contracting, causing muscle fatigue which can result in pain and stiffness
During your procedure, Dr. Richard Robinson will perform exams to locate the source of your pain. Once determined, Dr. Robinson will perform neck adjustments in order to improve the mobility of the spine and restore range of motion. Neck adjustments can also increase movement of the adjoining muscles, improving back function altogether. We look forward to assisting you with all of your wellness needs!

Chiropractic Care and Pregnancy

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is not only safe but incredibly beneficial. During pregnancy, women experience many changes in their body, including changes in pelvic alignment, changes in posture and an increased back curve that comes with a protruding abdomen. These changes can result in a misaligned spine or joints. It is important to maintain proper alignment during pregnancy so that the baby can have enough room to develop, as well as to keep the nervous system and the rest of your body functioning properly.

At Robinson Family Chiropractic, Dr. Robinson utilizes adjustment techniques that do not place pressure on the abdomen, making chiropractic care completely safe and possible for pregnant women. With regular chiropractic care and prenatal massage, our team can help you have a healthy pregnancy, while controlling the symptoms of nausea and relieving pain in your back, neck and joints. Adjustments can also help reduce time of labor and delivery and prevent the need for a cesarean section. By keeping the spine in alignment, there will be more room for the baby to turn and get into the proper position in preparation for delivery, which will decrease the chance of a breach birth or need for medical intervention.

If you are pregnant, call our Rolling Meadows or Algonquin office at 847-963-4894 and 847-458-8444 respectively to schedule an appointment. For more information, visit www.handsdoc.com
